Georgia Francis

About

Georgia Francis is an award-winning spoken word poet, artist, and writer from Scotland. She holds a BA in English Literature and Creative Writing (First Class Honours) from the Open University. Francis’ debut poetry collection, Fainting Girl, depicts her experiences with adolescence, chronic illness, disability, love, and sexuality. Fainting Girl won the Silver Award for Poetry in The 2025 Reader Views Literary Awards. Francis was longlisted for Black Cat Poetry Press’ Turning Points Competition and published in the competition anthology. Her work has been included in Wishbone Words, Fried Egg Press, Coin Operated Press, Trans & Disabled Love Anthology, The Poetry’s Dead Anthology Volume 2, and The SpecBook 2024. Francis collaborated with singer-songwriter Erin Hephzibah to write original song ‘Raggedy Ann’, adapted from Francis’ poetry. ‘Raggedy Ann’ features on Hephzibah’s debut EP, Harebrained, and has been played on BBC Radio Scotland. In 2026, Francis competed in Loud Poets Paisley Slam Heat as part of the Paisley Book Festival, where she placed in the Final 3. Francis is the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of publishing press and creative arts magazine StoryTree.

Connection to Glasgow

Georgia Francis was raised in Glasgow southside and lived in the west end during her late teens and early twenties.

When signing up to SP SQUARE CIC activities, none are vetted and all are welcome.

SP SQUARE CIC, however, DOES vet thoroughly any and all staff/contractors who deliver activities on its behalf.

By signing up to our activities, individuals agree to refrain from anti-social behaviour whilst engaging as:

a workshop participant; a member of City of Poets; a contributor to OILCAN;

and/or in any other SP SQUARE CIC undertakings/projects.

SP SQUARE CIC understands anti-social behaviour as any behaviour which,

in the view of attendant SP SQUARE CIC staff/contractors,

makes others present feel unsafe and/or uncomfortable.
