Nazaret Ranea

About

Nazaret Ranea is a poet born in Málaga, Spain, and based in Edinburgh since 2017. Named one of Scotland’s Next Generation Young Makars, her work explores themes of nostalgia, memory, and the shifting notion of home, blending the personal with the universal. Her poems have appeared in over sixty publications worldwide, in both English and Spanish. She is the creator of the zines My Men and My Women, and the editor of For Those Who Tend the Soil, an anthology produced in collaboration with the Scottish Poetry Library. Nazaret has shared her work on BBC Radio Scotland and at festivals including the Edinburgh Fringe, the Edinburgh International Book Festival, and StAnza Poetry Festival, where she was the 2025 Poet in Residence for the Translation Award.

Connection to Glasgow

Nazaret’s connection to Glasgow began when she moved from Spain to Scotland in 2017. She quickly fell in love with the city, spending time at gigs and shows and drawing inspiration from its music and arts scene. In 2023 she worked in Glasgow, and since then she has performed as a featured poet at Scowth and continued to collaborate with poets from the city.
