Esther Steed

About

Esther Steed started writing poetry when aged fourteen, and discovered slam poetry at seventeen. Performing at many open mic nights, connections with other poets and further performances followed, such as those at Burnsfest in Ayr, and as guest poet at Inn Deep in Glasgow's west end. She studied performance art at university and wrote her dissertation on slam poetry and the importance of both audience and performer. She says, "Poetry has been a constant relief in my life, a form of self care and journaling."

Connection to Glasgow

Esther Steed's family moved from Wales to Glasgow when the poet was two years old. Growing up in Glasgow's west end she left at seventeen when starting uni. Returning to Glasgow at twenty she moved to the Southside where she has been living living for a little over a year.
